When looking to make a house not only as low maintenance as possible but also as fire resistance as possible, brick is usually the material of choice. However, it is usually confined to the exterior of the home and the fireplaces. You may however have a number of brick outside the basic fireplace. This may be a few rows on the sides of the fireplace or it can take up most of a wall and create something of a focal point for a room.
